Sustainable lighting system, urban park
Through its character and its spatial qualities the design for the Piracicaba Memorial register the republican ideals and above all celebrates Brazilian democracy.
The Piracicaba Republic Memorial complex attends an important role of recording national political memory, as well as providing an urban park and a new architectural complex to the city, capable of offering citizens excellent technical and spatial quality buildings. The Republic Square, constituted by the void between the two buildings, is full of vegetation extending the existing green mass around, thus providing the creation of an urban park, able to receive the citizen for visitation, rest and leisure.

The pilotis works as an extension of the Republic Square, characterized as a barrier-free place. The atrium has as its basic function to concentrate and distribute circulation flows, also evoking its symbolic meaning as a space of transition between public and private.
Section detail
The roof is a zenith lighting system composed of three different layers. The first layer consists of prefabricated pyramidal elements made of sheet metal that prevent direct sunlight. The second layer is made of transparent honeycomb polycarbonate plates that allow the light resulting from the filtration in the first layer. The third layer is located inside the building and is a translucent film acting as a diffuser
