Caputo Bastos & Fruet is a traditional law firm for whom we have developed a retrofit project that puts our client on the edge of contemporary architecture and design.
The original building’s structure was wrapped in a translucent skin, made of perforated steel plates. This skin works as a sunshade and gives privacy to the upper floor openings, and is the main element of connection between new and existing elements.
The tridimensional curved corten steel fence is a sculptural key element that stands out in the design. It brings movement and grace to the building, contrasting in color and shape with the existing wrapped structure, and embraces the traditional law firm into contemporary design language.
The freijó wood panels, the corten steel main door and the tecnocement finishings also bring contrasts to the inner spaces, combining again traditional and innovative materials that contrast beautifully.
While the main building hosts offices and meeting rooms, the external auditorium serves to host external public for lectures and small gatherings. The volume is crowned by a corten steel beam that extends as an outside foyer and frames the tall palm trees, another key element of the existing site that was preserved in our design.
