During its history, ATRIA has been offering an internship program for architecture students with an interest on international and dynamic environments.   ATRIA offers the student contact with a multidisciplinary team, including architects, engineers, designers and project managers. ATRIA’s   interns work with the design process through participation in competitions, concept design proposals, design development phases, construction documents and site supervision. The goal is to develop competencies within a variety of fields at all levels.

ATRIA’s intern Lucas Bernardes, student of the University of Brasilia and winner of the Renzo Piano Scholarship 2020, shares about how his working experience at the company contributed in his personal and professional development.

Why did you decided to do the application for ATRIA’s internship program?

I decided to apply to Atria's internship program because it is considered a firm with a high degree of excellence and productivity. This is an environment I have always wanted to be on. In addition, Atria is recognized for its outstanding international standard projects, something that I would be proud to be part of.

Knowing that ATRIA is recognized as a multidisciplinary office that operates in a great variety of fields and levels, how this working experience contributed to your professional development?

This is a key point for my professional development. Being an architect requires an intense contact with many project's areas. Our dynamic environment gives us more confidence and efficiency making technical decisions. In addition, Atria works with BIM softwares that are fundamental to support all these fields and produce very complete projects, also avoiding compatibility error.

And how ATRIA’s working experience collaborated to your personal growth and social relations?

Working at Atria requires a lot of engagement and determination. This is the reason why I became much more responsible. When I have a task in my role, I am always in alert making sure everything goes well and therefore I am constantly thinking about it, it becomes an almost affective bond. And the same extends to my social relationships! At Atria I made more than colleagues, I made real friends for whom I have a lot of admiration and I know I can trust in.

How do you believe ATRIA’s internship program will contribute in your academic formation and in your University’s final project?

I believe Atria has allowed me to put into practice many contents I learned at the university and courses concerning technical and conceptual fields. This contributed to a more complete knowledge. About my final project, the experience at Atria made me realize the social demands that come from our clients and the technical solutions for it.

Finally, which activities that you developed at ATRIA during the internship you consider fundamental to the first year of professional practice after graduation?

I notice that in this environment we are motivated to think out of the box breaking paradigms. I believe that activities that go beyond architectural design, such as of cost estimations, technical specification, compatibility co-ordination with engineering are the activities that will allow me to be a more complete professional after my graduation
